Welcome to my website!

A portfolio of data engineering, analytics, automation, software projects, and vintage fountain pens.

I build systems that collect, transform, and make information useful. From NHL data pipelines to Raspberry Pi and sensor automations, I love building systems and digging into the data.

Hockey Data

Currently, most of my efforts on this site are being directed toward this project. Hockey Data has been a goal of mine since late 2024, and as I've built it, I've learned a great deal about designing clean, reliable, and maintainable data pipelines and systems. I pull data from the NHL API daily, process and transform it, and use it to create everything you see here.

I'm constantly adding new data views and finding ways to improve or refine the systems behind them. It's one of those projects I can't seem to stop thinking about, so there's almost always something new being built!

Below is a little preview of one of my favorite stats:

Hat Tricks This Season:

Plant Automations

This project has been ongoing since Spring 2026. I'm currently collecting data from a series of soil sensors that I've wired into various plants around my home. I initially expected the project to help me better understand the workflows involved in sourcing and collecting large amounts of data, while also learning how to build and maintain an API. Along the way, though, I've found myself learning quite a bit about electronics, wiring, and the mechanics behind the sensors themselves.

You won't currently find much here about this project... yet. But I'll be adding more later in 2026.

Analog

In late 2021, I discovered a love for fountain pens. I was finishing my degree at Oregon State University and trying to better understand how to make the most of my study and learning time. I kept encountering scientific literature describing the benefits of writing and taking notes by hand. This seemed like exactly what I was looking for, except for one tiny issue... I absolutely hated writing by hand. Up until then, I had never encountered a writing instrument that felt comfortable, especially for longer writing sessions like taking notes during a lecture or journaling. I somehow stumbled upon fountain pens, gave them a try, and before long I was hooked.

One thing led to another, and eventually I found myself restoring a 1929 Wahl Signature. I enjoyed the process so much that I began seeking out other vintage fountain pens and learning how to restore them as well. It became a welcome respite from the constant screen time that came with balancing full-time school and full-time work.

In Summer 2022, I decided to open an Etsy shop called Portland Pen Co. to sell some of the vintage pens I had restored, and the rest is history. The experience has taught me a great deal about running a small business, approaching retail distribution and logistics, managing all the small details that come with selling physical goods, and even product photography! I'm always learning something new from this work, and I hope to continue doing it for many years to come.

I hope you enjoy looking around my site. I have many more projects planned for the future, so feel free to come back often!
